Turn Awareness into Action
May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month - Get Involved!
In a world where mental health issues affect millions, this year we are taking a bold step during Mental Health Awareness Month to Turn Awareness Into Action! Help us transform understanding into tangible support, compassion into progress and intentions into impact. Help us shine a light on mental health and the importance of supporting the emotional well-being of ourselves and those around us. This May, get involved. Connect, participate, support, create and turn awareness into action.
Mental Health Awareness Month is more than just a calendar event—it’s a nationwide movement to:
- Raise awareness about the realities of mental health conditions.
- Encourage Action to get involved in the community, workplace and schools
- Break the stigma that often surrounds mental illness and discourage silence and shame.
- Educate individuals and communities about common mental health challenges, signs and symptoms, and available treatments.
- Empower people to seek help and understand that they are not alone.
- Advocate for stronger mental health policies, better access to care, and the resources people need to thrive.
- Donate to MHA Lakeshore
Why It’s Important
Mental health affects every part of our lives—how we think, feel, and act. Yet for many, mental health struggles go unseen or unspoken due to stigma or lack of understanding. Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and everyone deserves support, compassion, and access to care.
This month is also a powerful opportunity for communities to come together, share stories, provide education, and take action. Whether it's attending an event, starting a conversation, or wearing a message of support—every effort counts.

Donate to MHA Lakeshore
This May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, MHA Lakeshore invites you to support a cause that touches every generation in our community. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by the end of the month to strengthen and grow the critical mental health programs that so many individuals and families rely on. Your contribution fuels impactful initiatives like our K-5 Resilient Classroom Project, Student Ambassador leadership programs in local high schools, Suicide Awareness and Prevention education, vital Information & Assistance services, and a variety of support groups for individuals navigating mental health challenges.
We are also thrilled to announce that, beginning this fall, we are expanding the Resilient Classroom Project into middle schools — reaching even more youth during a pivotal stage of development. This expansion is critical: one in five youth experiences a mental health condition, and suicide remains the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-24. Early intervention and consistent support can truly change — and save — lives.
Your gift today builds hope, resilience, and strength for tomorrow. Together, we can create a healthier, stronger community for all. Join us in making a difference this Mental Health Awareness Month.
This May—and every month—let’s work together to ensure that no one feels alone in their mental health journey. Because mental health can’t wait.
